Some Things to Consider Fishing Salmon on Lake Oahe

• The salmon run from the dam up to the spawning ladder starting in mid-September and go thru mid-November as the water cools.
• The spawning station usually turns on the ladder the 2nd week in October and that’s when the numbers will increase.
• Cast plugs early morning or at sunset from shore.
• Pull deep diving plugs or flashers with squid during day following the shoreline from bridge around Whitlock Bay. You don’t need downrigggers and cannon balls up here as they will only get hung up. Line boards can be used to keep your lines from tangling.
